Product description
Low smoke halogen free armored power cable (CU/XLPE/SWA/LSZH), 3.5 core stranded copper conductor, Produced by Riyadh Cables Company. according to IEC 60502-1 standard. Armored with layer of steel wires (SWA) to give it mechanical strength to protect it from external pressures that fall on the cable. Insulated with XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) which provides a unique combination of strength, flexibility and reliability making them suitable for a diverse range of applications. It can withstand high temperatures up to 90°C for extended periods without compromising performance. The cable also withstands harsh environmental conditions, including moisture, corrosion and chemicals, chloride-free, making it environmentally friendly. Also, it is sheathed with an outer layer of low smoke halogen-free compound (LSHF), non-toxic and environmentally friendly as it does not contain halogens and does not produce dense smoke or harmful fumes in case of fire. Making it ideal for use in public buildings, industrial areas, infrastructure projects, and densely populated areas where fire and smoke emissions pose a potential threat to equipment and life. It generally works to reduce the risks caused by the after-effects of electrical fire. Available in various shapes and sizes in highest quality and best prices to suit different applications and needs.

What are SWA Armored Cables and Why are They Used?
SWA armored cables are electrical cables equipped with a Steel Wire Armour layer that provides higher mechanical protection when exposed to pressure, friction, or passing through paths that may be subjected to impacts. Therefore, they are commonly used in construction and infrastructure projects in the Kingdom when a more durable cable is needed, especially in environments that require additional toughness.

Guidelines for Choosing SWA Armored Cables for Projects in the Kingdom
- Check the cross-section and number of cores: This 3.5 core product is suitable for three-phase feeding with a neutral according to the requirements of panels and loads.
- Select the appropriate insulation type: XLPE insulation is suitable for applications that require higher thermal endurance and stability.
- Prefer low smoke halogen-free sheath: The LSHF sheath reduces smoke and harmful fumes during a fire, making it suitable for facilities that prioritize safety requirements.
- SWA when mechanical protection is needed: The presence of armoring helps when extending the cable in paths that may be subjected to friction, soil pressure, or site conditions.
Brief Installation Notes for SWA Cables
To ensure the proper utilization of SWA armoring, it is recommended that installation be performed by a qualified electrician according to project specifications, ensuring the selection of appropriate termination accessories (glands/ends) for armored cables, adjusting the installation path to avoid excessive tension and sharp bends, and adhering to insulation and testing requirements according to the IEC 60502-1 standard.
